now, for the past few months i've been through a lot. I flooded my Z by driving directly into water(almost 1 foot deep). Fortunately the engine is fine and i got away with just some draining and drying. 500 miles after the flood, the engine overheated for at least 5 times due to broken water hoses here, there and everywhere. I pulled plenum and replaced all hoses(didn't bypass, wanted to keep it stock), knock sensor and the EGR.(again, all stock). And now finally after 1000 miles, the engine is crazy with bearing noises. No options left, pulled my engine for the first time. I don't know about you but when I started to sling the engine out of the bay, i was almost about to cry, too much mental attachment to the car and now its heart has to be taken out disassembled. I felt like my loved one is in the ICU, the only difference is that for the Z, i am the surgeon(well, with some help, or at times i am the helper). I've a mechanic friend who owns a shop and that's where the operating room is.
first, exhaust out

transmission is fairly easy for us since we've done that for 3 times

I didn't get ride of all fuel and just picked up a plug and nailed it in

Alternator out, I always had a difficulty tracing where all the oil came from(on any parts of the car). I am going to have this alternator tested since my dash are dimmer than before and I am guessing the culprit is the alternator.

Disconnected this, and marked it with some white paint, so that later on I won't have a screwed driving wheel.

Again, lots of oil , this time on the power steering

after disconnecting all the wiring, its good to go. I didn't have any slinger so the plenum method was used

now, the z is heartless

always amazed by the number of wiring the Z has, this, is just anther one need to be replaced due to its age

On to the 1-ton stand

oil, lots of oil

Starting with the turbo, and I confirmed the theory that heat can make steel break easily.

how could this happen is a mystery to me, somebody must have unscrewed and screwed this for too many times.

o2 sensor looks good?

oil, lots of oil

header out(passenger side)

a closer look at the turbo, after 150,000 miles, I think I need a replacement (or I can trace where the oil came from and confirm its not the turbo thats leaking).

CAS out

pulling the plenum again, I don't understand why the injector washer is so easily damaged only after 1000 miles.

now, something serious, the camshafts seem to have a oil starvation and some parts were rubbed against iron, oil pump need to be replaced, but how to treat this cam remains undecided

I always had this thought that I am going to lie down on this spiny top and kill myself..................ah!!!!

heads out, now the cylinders.

cylinder walls, do they look good?

tomorrow I'll start to disemble the oil pan and I'll keep you updated on pictures.
I've a few options, rebuilt this motor or buy a OEM short block. The thing is, coz told me it takes 3-6 weeks to have one shipped to him and I'll be Z-less for about 2months, which is bad.
